Noticing social trends (and maybe also spawningthem 😇 - I'm truly not mad that Newsweek and The Cut seem to have liked my angle, but I just want people to know that I have good pitch ideas with broad appeal).
Photography / photojournalism - here's a photo essay I made about the recent Mayoral election.
Audio - reporting, sound editing, news, live producing
Being funny(an editor from The Atlantic said this piece had too many jokes for them.)
Data: I can write and advise on data-driven stories. I'm a Data Journalism Teaching Assistant, studied statistics and network theory at a graduate level, did software development at a FinTech for ~two years during lockdown.
Other skills:
Creative editing:
reading drafts, providing opinions, forging narratives, giving unsolicited & solicited advice, editing for clarity, extremely frank feedback etc.
I can write announcements, newsletters, and pitches. Before being a reporter, I communicated professionally for billion-dollar tech investment funds, AI companies, politicians, and (as discussed) clowns.
Ghost writing:
I have written & edited ghost-written articles in The Guardian,Grazia, The Scotsman & other outlets. You send me a bunch of notes summing up what you kinda want to say, I turn them into something more succinct, no one ever knows I was involved.
